I am a rehabber in the Chicago area and have
had a nightmare of an experience with Matt Gromczak.
In spring, 2011, Matt was
introduced to me as a partner of a contractor named Adam. Adam was giving me a
bid on a rehab job. Matt later started contacting me directly, "buttering" me
up (to win my confidence), and promising he could do the needed work less
expensively than Adam or any other contractor. He showed me fire restoration
work he had done on a house in the southern suburbs of Chicago and gave me a
reference (who "vouched" for Matt).
Then, Matt offered me a "business
opportunity"--saying that if I became his partner on some fire restoration work
(and "advanced him and his company, BMG Development Group & Restoration, money for ONLY a week"--until his expected hard money
loan being supplied by some Polish people funded), he would return my money to me within one week and also give me 50% of the
forthcoming profits on his next fire restoration jobs. He was very convincing
and insisted that he wanted everything "written up" legally. Foolishly, I
agreed to his idea. I fronted the money (over $20,000, total), Matt and I signed a detailed agreement, and then Matt signed
personal and corporately guaranteed promissory notes for the loaned money. Then, he didn't pay me
back as promised!
After I kept persistently demanding repayment of the loaned money from Matt, he finally wrote me
a repayment check for part of the money, except his check bounced! I was
horrified and panic-stricken! I had lent Matt money that I really should never
have lent him (because I was very short on money). I had done so because I believed him when he
promised to return it within 7 days! (Matt is very convincing.) It's now been
over a year, and Matt still has not returned any of my money; and of course, he
hasn't given me any share of any profits he may have received doing fire restoration
work!
When Matt's check to me bounced (twice!), I contacted my local police department
and opened a criminal case against him. To my surprise, the local detective
told me that Matt "had a record" in my town and had used the same scam on another person in my town. The local detective also told me that
the police department in yet another Chicago suburb also was looking for him regarding a similar scam
he pulled on yet another person. Then I learned that Matt had also used the
same scam on his former partner, Adam!
This entire ordeal has absolutely DEVASTATED ME financially and caused me unbelievable stress and anxiety.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MATT
(MACIEJ) GROMCZAK D/B/A BMG DEVELOPMENT GROUP & RESTORATION! HE IS A
SCAMMER WHO ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BE TRUSTED.
